Romanizer banner

Make sure the phrygian goddess Cybele becomes a part of the Roman Pantheon in this historic management game, and meet flamboyant poets who had a hand in the writings about this little-known episode of roman history. Use your influence wisely to affect the opinions of different parts of roman society and obtain their support, and try to survive the important historic events that will come and disrupt your efforts. Be wary, if part of the roman population is too unhappy with Cybele, she might end up thrown to the lions...

Romanizer was created in 48 hours as a submission to the Scientific Game Jam - Lyon #2, which had 19 teams work on games based on some of the contestants' theses. This game was created from a thesis dealing with the integration of "oriental cults" into the Roman Pantheon, depicted by different poets. It was awarded the Grand Prix of the jam. I was part of a 6-people team, as lead developer, because my fellow programmer didn't have experience with Monogame. I also took part in the game design discussions, and designed the UI of the game.

After the jam, William Brou, a member of the jury and of Les Clionautes, an association of history and geography teachers, contacted the team in order to continue the development of the game so that it could be usable in history lessons in French middle schools. A contract was created, and it was decided to restart the development by porting it to Unity. A tutorial was added, some design choices were also changed, and a lot more graphic assets were created.
